The transformation a rundown outdoor space at one of the largest leisure centres in the UK

Guildford Spectrum Leisure Complex is owned by Guildford City Council and managed in partnership with Freedom Leisure. Collaborating with Origin Fitness Outdoor Fitness Concepts designed and built Guildford Spectrum's New Outdoor Training Space. Completed in 2.5 weeks the addition of an outdoor Training Space has allowed Guildford Spectrum to add over 20 group exercise classes as well as small group PT and PT sessions. They now operate the The Powerhouse Outdoor Fitness programme

The double gates also allow use of the 26 acre site to accommodate larger groups as part of their wider programme. The complex was opened on 23 February 1993 and is situated on the outskirts of the historical market town of Guildford in an area known as Stoke Park.

It was the first of its kind in the UK and still today it is unrivalled in the facilities it houses all under one roof. The complex is also home to the Guildford Flames Ice Hockey team that are based from Spectrum who compete in the English Premier Ice Hockey League and regularly during the season play to crowds of over 2000 against teams from as far afield as Sheffield, Manchester and more locally from Basingstoke and Bracknell.

The Outdoor Training Space contains a 8m Element Fitness Functional Training Rig, 3 outdoor adjustable benches, mobile squat rack and a 3m galvanised and powder coated storage unit with integrated internal shelving, Olympic bar racks, plate racks and completed with ramp and twin security locks.

The 8m outdoor rig was secured to the wall and the floor and included a 3.4m rope climb, 3.4m cargo net, 4 lifting stations, multiple pull up bars including twin adjustable pull up bars, monkey bars, fixed grappler, battle rope attachment, double wall ball target, 3 bar wing, boxing bag arm complete with 190lb Aqua Punching Bag, safety squat attachments, dipping station and jump platform.

The outdoor space is finished with 40mm dual layer wet pour rubber with the addition of 43mm SBR outdoor flooring tiles in the high impact areas. A 2.4m high fence with 3m double gates was added to allow access to the 26 acre grounds and provide security for the space. We also embedded the Guildford Spectrum logo into the rubber surface.

This Outdoor Fitness Space has zero operational cost.
